Meinhardt Vineyards Tasting Room
Meinhardt Vineyards has a tasting room located in the scenic city of Savannah in the downtown City Market. Their vineyards are actually located about an hour northwest of Savannah in Statesboro. I stopped in the tasting room, spoke with Ken the owner and tasted their great wine. I must say this is the most unique tasting wine I have ever had and I mean that in a good way. Meinhardt has a variety of wines using the Muscadine grape. While almost all grapes in the world of wine are made with grapes of the species “Vitis Vinafera,” Muscadine grapes are from the species “Vitis Muscadinia.” Muscadine grapes are a rich source of many nutrients and usually contain more resveratrol, the cancer fighting agent in grape skins, than most Vitis Vinafera grapes. Meinhardt’s wines range from off-dry to sweet and are made with other fruits such as blackberry, peach and plum. If you are looking for wines that are truly unique and well-made, I definitely recommend Meinhardt wines. They ship to other states and they even have a non-alcoholic cider that tastes really nice.
